Understanding Stress

shutterstock_29603572If you are experiencing chronic or continued stress, it will eventually have a negative impact on your life. Stress can affect your performance at work and in your social and home life. It causes real physical problems for your body; it releases epinephrine and adrenaline and triggers the body to release glucocorticoid, cortisol, and hydrocortisone. Long term effects of stress can inhibit growth and healing. In many cases, chronic symptoms of stress can lead to anxiety and even depression.  Stress is also responsible for physical problems such as lower back pain and headaches.

Stress is a personal experience, and shows itself in different ways to different people. The treatment of stress is also dependent on individual coping mechanisms and predispositions to emotional fatigue. Some people are able to release stress by venting their aggression verbally or physically, but this is generally only a temporary fix. Research indicates that gender also has an effect on stress levels, as women tend to be affected more by interpersonal problems, and illness in others, whereas men are more prone to work-related stress.

With stress being so potentially damaging to our mental and physical health, the goal is to find ways to ease stress levels. Try as we might, we CANNOT eliminate stress from our lives, so this is not always easy to do. When you feel stressed, relieve the tension by taking a walk, exercising, or do an activity you enjoy, such as painting or reading.  Better still, make sure your nervous system is able to operate your body at the highest level with a peak ability to resist the stresses you encounter everyday.

Simple Relief for Lower Back Pain

shutterstock_21558781Most of us know we should have proper lumber support, especially in our work space, but unfortunately, many people do not seek the support until the pain sets in and rush to purchase a product that may or may not alleviate the problem. There are many lumbar support products available on the market, so how do you know which one to choose?

The most important element to consider is to make sure the product allows your spine to be in proper alignment. Having good posture, while sitting at your office desk, will assist you in having a healthy spine. The lumbar region of your spine, also known as the lower back, is just above your tailbone and below your ribcage and includes your spine and all the muscles, ligaments, and tendons that surround your spine. Sitting for long periods of time with poor posture can put strain on your lumbar spine and lower back.

Generally, all that is required to relieve lower back pain from poor sitting posture is to prevent them from occurring in the first place. The first step is to choose the right lumbar support to ensure that it fits in your chair. The best option is to select an ergonomically designed chair that includes a built-in-lumbar support. Another option is to choose an individual lumbar support designed to fit in any chair, and try it out before making your purchase.

Having optimal wellness is a combination of many factors, including nutrition, preventative care, corrective care, and every day choices. If you would like additional information about how to relieve lower back pain, please, contact our office today.

3 Ways to Prevent Bone Density Loss

Chiropractic care is helpful for those already suffering from osteoporosis, and in many cases, it can help others maintain healthy bones. Chiropractic care corrects spinal misalignments with adjustments, allowing the nervous system to function better and communicate with the rest of the body at a cellular level, affecting tissues, muscles, bones and ligaments. By maintaining properly aligned joints, the nervous system doesn’t react with pain or disease. Continue reading
